Realtime Interpreter Privacy Policy

Realtime Interpreter is an iOS live speech interpretation app. It uses Apple In-App Purchase credits and developer-managed OpenAI Realtime Translation sessions. Users do not enter their own OpenAI API key.

Data We Process

Audio Data

When you start a live translation session, microphone audio is streamed to OpenAI Realtime Translation to provide live translated audio and captions. Audio is sent only during an active session. Local microphone diagnostics stay on device and are not sent to OpenAI.

Purchases and Credits

The app processes Apple In-App Purchase transaction data to add non-expiring Realtime credits, prevent duplicate crediting, reconcile refunds, and maintain your balance. Credit ledger events include product ID, transaction ID hash/reference, credited or debited Realtime seconds, and timestamps.

When Apple sends a refund-request consumption notification, the app server acknowledges the notification but does not send Apple additional consumption data unless a future version adds a separate customer consent flow for that data sharing.

User Identifier

The app uses a privacy-preserving app user identifier for credit balance, session accounting, abuse prevention, and OpenAI safety identifiers. The anonymous app account identifier is stored in the iOS Keychain so the app can maintain your purchased credit balance. This identifier is not an OpenAI API key and is not used for tracking across apps or websites.

Usage Data

The commercial backend records Realtime session duration, selected mode, Realtime session count, heartbeat progress, and credit debits so paid credits can be used accurately.

Diagnostics

The app and backend may process limited server and client error classes to resolve purchase, balance, and live-session issues. Diagnostics are used for app functionality and are not used for tracking. We do not store raw audio or transcripts as diagnostic data.

Data We Do Not Store

OpenAI Processing

OpenAI processes live audio and related Realtime Translation session data while a live translation session is active. The developer OpenAI API key is stored only on the backend. The iOS app receives short-lived OpenAI Realtime client secrets for paid sessions.

Apple In-App Purchase

Purchases are handled by Apple. The app receives transaction data needed to credit Realtime minutes and reconcile purchase state.

Background Behavior

The app stops live translation when it moves to the background to avoid hidden microphone use and unexpected credit consumption.

Tracking

The app does not track users across apps or websites.

Support

Do not send OpenAI API keys, Apple private keys, payment credentials, private transcripts, raw transaction JWS strings, or screenshots that show secrets in support requests.
